Sweets & Savories 11/4/2009
Sweets and Savories might appears to be a bit pricey. But I assure you that the food worth every dime you pay. Their prix-fixe brunch and special will be a good way to try this restaurant! Their prix-fixe brunch was awesome. It comes with your choice of Bloody Mary, Screwdriver, Mimosa or Wine. And the first course was a plateful of Zante Currant Scones, Chocolate Espresso Muffins, Sweets Rolls, Lemon Loaf and Palmiers. Grapefruit was totally awesome! They come with a little shot glass of San Pellegrino Bitter. When you done with your grapefruit, you will pour the grapefruit juice in it. One ingredient with 2 distinctive taste. My main course was REAL BIG CHUNK of Lobster meat with roasted red potatoes on top with over easy eggs with some kind of Hollandaise sauce. the portion was just right!!! Love it~
Zenkichi 10/29/2009
Zenkichi makes me feel like I'm in Japan! Intimate setting gives you enough privacy. Instead of having the waiter to come check in with you every five minutes, they have a buzzer at the table when you need them. Bamboo, stone, and wood deco put me into a zen mode to enjoy my dinner. the 8 course dining experience for under $50, I can't complain. Zenkichi taught me raw Kobe beef can be soooo good! from start to finish, every dish has been well thought. The presentation, the taste, they all compliment with each other. My all time favorite is Grilled Black Cod. Full of flavor but not overwhelmed, I have yet tasted such grilled fish anywhere else yet!
Las Palmas 10/29/2009
Las Palmas is located on North Ave., it's easy to miss somehow, but I considered it as a hidden treasure. This place is very cozy, it's a nice date spot, but it could get loud when big group presents. Interesting artworks from 70s pops to loud modern vibrant artworks hanging on the wall. Extensive tequila menu ensure you will have a good time! Fresh made Guacamole with just the right amount of the ingredients just makes you want more, but don't fill up. Because their dinner from their enchiladas to Tilapia will give you a new perspective of Mexican cuisine.
Feast 10/29/2009
Living in Wicker Park for several years, I always get stucked in a long waiting line for brunch during the weekend. I finally gave Feast a try hoping the line won't be as long. "Boy, why did it take me so long to come here?" I wondered. Their waiting time was rather short, and their brunch are excellent. Their breakfast croissant is fantastic! fresh lightly toasted fluffy croissant with scrambled eggs, prosciutto, roasted tomatoes, mozzarella and arugula. matching with fried potatoes (they called it "feast"). Their mimosa completed me. From now on, Feast will be my regular joint!
Silent H 10/7/2009
Everytime when I go to Brooklyn to visit friends, I'll make sure I find time to pay a visit to Silent H. The restaurant deco is simple and modern, they also have a patio area for group. But let's focus on the food!! I absolutely love their Banh Mi, which is a vietnamese sandwich on french baguette. You won't go wrong with any of them, but my favorite is the Grilled Pork. The pork is tender and juicy. The portion of the meat and the veggies are perfect. Pickled carrot and Daikon gave it a refreshing touch! All of their food are equally great, so you just have to try them all instead of me giving you some suggestion. But I have to point out that you really should try the Soaked Basil Seed with Sweet Chrysanthemum Tea. It's especially tasty in a hot summer day.
