My cousin introduced me to Gutbusters. The little space on the corner of Lee St and Ralph David Abernathy has been the home to many restaurants. A Krispy Kreme was there and a couple of other random hot wing franchise attempts. But nothing has had the staying power of Gutbusters. Famous in the neighborhood for their chicken and Philly cheesesteaks, this greasy spoon also offers breakfast. Of course the price is right; a Philly combo with fries and a drink will cost you about $7. Although they have seats, Gutbusters doesn’t have the ambiance of a traditional “sit-down” restaurant. It’s really more of a call in, take out kinda place. But this joint is good. I especially love their fish and French fries combo; they don’t drop your fries until you come in so you are always guaranteed hot, steamy, salty, delicious French fries. MMMMmmmmmm can you smell the grease?

Taste of Tropical Restaurant
Taste of Tropical is by no means an upscale Caribbean restaurant. It is cluttered with large soda coolers, some with sodas, some not. There’s also a broken chair where you can sit and wait for your order in front of one of the coolers. But once you get past all the stuff, the food is divine. They serve the usual Jamaican fare: jerk chicken, curry chicken, oxtails, beef patties and rice and peas. The food is cheap; you’ll spend around $8 for a dinner that will last you for two dinners because the portions are HUGE! Now this place, like Gutbusters, is not the sit down type of place. First of all, there is no space, not even a table. But they are fast so your wait isn’t long. I personally like their beef patties but all the food is really great.
