For Your Throat's Sake Sign
I was out walking around my local area recently, and I saw this example of advertising from a bygone era. I had not noticed it before (maybe it had been covered by a newer advertising hoarding?), but then it struck me...and I reached for my camera. The reason? Well all you need to do is look at the sentiment behind the advertising, faded it's true, but still a very good example of painted advertising nonetheless. Nowhere in Britain now are you allowed to advertise cigarettes anymore, we all know the problems they can cause, the increasing cost of them proves that one day they may become a thing of the past--yet looking at this advert is like stepping back in time. Here the words don't just suggest you buy a pack, they almost implore you to, pleading to you from a peeling painted sign. And giving an insight into not just the lives, but the mindset of a time gone by.
Come and have a look while you still can--I get the feeling that being so out of step with the times we live in, it won't be around for ever...
