Never one to be cheery, the eastern side of Peckham surrounding the Queen’s Road is a rather bleak landscape of monolithic tower blocks and sprawling council estates. But there is something refreshingly gritty and nonplussed about the area and its dedicated locals. For instance, the 805 Bar and Restaurant has excellent African food and is a culinary oasis in an urban desert.
