A noticeboard on Peckham Rye Common alleges that ancient British Queen Boudicca was finally defeated by the Romans here. Anyone suggesting that the very middle class streets around North Cross Road, with its market, independent sweet shop, and numerous gastropubs, are anything to do with Peckham might get the same treatment. But this area, despite Peckham’s rough reputation, is actually a very nice place indeed.
