Encompassing six square miles, and ensconced by three major freeways—the 405, 105, and 110—Hawthorne calls itself the “hub of the South Bay.” With LAX on its border and Northrop Grumman, one of Hawthorne’s largest businesses, the city is driven by the aerospace and air transport industries, making it known as the “cradle of aviation.” Hawthorne’s own municipal airport is appropriately known as Jack Northrop Field.
