NFT San Francisco Mt Davidson

Mt Davidson
Standing at 938 feet, Mt. Davidson is the highest point in San Francisco. Covered in eucalyptus and blackberry on the sea-side and dry grass to the east, the hill is topped by a 103-foot-high cross commemorating the Armenian genocide—you’ll recognize it from Dirty Harry. In between here and Glen Canyon is a residential neighborhood spilling down the hillside.

Mt Davidson Cross
It's really too bad Joy Division never made it to the United States, because when their tour rolled through San Francisco, they could have taken one hell of a photograph at the Mount Davidson Cross. Like a slightly smaller version of Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer, the 103-foot gray giant presides over the Mt. Davidson neighborhood below. As with all things bigger than they should be, it is awe-inspiring, and when the fog is swirling you can imagine a race of giants that long ago had their own, much larger Christ.

Mt Davidson Cross
Li'l Stonehenge is located around the grounds of Mt. Davidson, the highest natural point in the city. On a foggy day, one of the city’s most celebrated views disappears in a drifting, milky shroud. That’s when the arrangement of benches transforms into a tiny version of the authentic Stonehenge. You know, like the prop from Spinal Tap. We know the druids were behind Britain’s version, but who built these structures, and why? The San Francisco Recreation & Park Commission seems too obvious an answer. The palpable sense of mystery here transcends a rational, scientific explanation of normal benches. At the time of this writing, Li’l Stonehenge is still waiting to be officially recognized by the city as a landmark. In the meantime, go to Mt. Davidson in your finest druid duds and dance around Li'l Stonehenge at dawn. This is San Francisco after all.
