On Our Radar:
Chunk of the Berlin Wall

Most people don’t realize that a four-ton piece of Cold War history is on permanent display in Cambridge. Yes, right in our own backyard, free for all to see—a twelve-foot tall section of the Berlin Wall! It’s not surprising that it goes unnoticed by most. It sits off of McGrath O’Brien Highway (across from the Science Museum) outside the North American headquarters of EF, a travel, international language education and cultural exchange company. If you are not one of the 850 people who work in this building or if you’re not a quacking tourist, cruising by on an inane Duck Tour, you really would have no reason to go there. This large slab of history was a gift from the German government, given to the EF’s owner—“in recognition of his work in breaking down barriers through educational travel and cultural exchanges.” So, if you find yourself skulking around McGrath O’Brien Highway one of these days, pay a visit; it’s really worth a gander.
