Popped Up

Covet in Islington is now working as a pop-up shop where new designers can show their wares--and hopefully sell them too. The designers will rotate every month to expose new talent but current favourites include Kirsty Kirkpatrick of who creates pieces by expertly dismantling and reassembling old bits of jewellery and Andrea Garland an aromatherapist who puts together sweet smelling lip balms and packages them in gorgeous vintage tins which she will then happily refill. This writer's personal favourite is a pair of earrings with little antique kitten prints on them by Louise Graham, a ceramicist. Of course the ever-lovely Fifi is on hand to talk you through all the fabulous items on display. Go, see, covet, buy.

The Anti-Urban Outfitters
Posted by:  Claire Storrow

Having popped into My Sugarland which looks fantastic from the outside but on the inside is full of overpriced "vintage" or just plain overpriced stuff, I was looking for something else to satisfy my need to purchase a little somethin-somethin. Luckily I stumbled across Covet hidden away behind Sadlers Wells Theatre. There you will find more than a few marvellous little somethin-somethins to quench your desire and what's great about Covet is practically everything is designed and made by local designers some of whom are happy to produce commissioned work. Indeed Fifi the owner makes some items herself having stocked the likes of No-one and Urban Outfitters with her wares previous to setting up shop. The dresses of Simon Ekrelius attract attention from critics and punters alike and Samantha Mark's clutches put a neat spin on those ubiquitous red and blue check laundry bags. Jewellery, scarves and greetings cards are also available, and perhaps our editor Rob will be happy to see the pages of the London A-Z put to better use--folded into a handy travelcard/Oyster card holder. NFT--providing the only maps you'll ever need.™

Comment: Rather hilariously Simon Ekrelius has defected to My Sugarland - all the more reason to go to Covet and discover some undiscovered talent.
