Greater New York 2005 - P.S.1
Thursday, March 17, 2005
The opening of Greater New York 2005 (new work by more than 160 local artists) on Sunday was crazy! Wall-to-wall attendees filled the courtyard and galleries, the temperature in most rooms topped 90 degrees, and the paint fumes were enough to drive museum-goers out of the building with splitting headaches. But the exhibited artwork was worth enduring such excruciating conditions, right? Wrong! To say that the majority
of work was underwhelming is generous. But the lowlight of the afternoon was definitely the army of “staff” sporting brand spanking new P.S.1 t-shirts and unable to answer a single question, with the exception
of this one: “How long have you worked here?” “Oh, this is my first day!” Unless you’ve run out of other things to do in New York, give this one a miss.
