Comment: The longest single-span suspension bridge in the world when it was built, its 70-story towers are 1-5/8 inches farther apart at the top than at the bottom to accommodate the curvature of the Earth. Enough wire to reach halfway to the moon; enough concrete to pave a single-lane road from here to Washington, D.C.; more steel than the Empire State Building. Next to this, the rest are just Tinker Toys.
