For the compulsive kitchen-supply shopper, A Cook's Companion is either very good or very bad news. Step into the shop to face the seasonal display of picnic paraphernalia, holiday baking booty, or barbecue accoutrements. There is a wall of gadgets--peelers, scoopers, graters, slicers, and measurers of every kind, in every color. There's bakeware, cookware, barware. They sell brightly colored melamine plates, whimsical aprons, and fanciful scrub brushes. There are cookbooks, storage containers, cake decorating tools, and a respectable collection of cookie cutters. Bring in a knife for sharpening, ogle the Le Creuset casserole dishes, decide that you really do need a set of silicone mini-muffin pans, but not before you check out the sale corner where there are always great bargains on their irresistible wares.
