Extra-P
Thursday, October 11, 2007
Everyone in Carroll Gardens knows that the D’Amicos are hilarious and serve (per the latest Zagat’s) New York’s best coffee. But the real untold gem here are the sandwiches. This is in large part due to an unheralded meat-and-cheese maestro, an artist who paints in prosciutto and roasted peppers, mayo and mustard. I’m talking about none other than Adam “Picasso” Lopez. Joanie D’Amico dubbed him Picasso to try and get him to hurry up, but dude stood his ground; so to this day, when you order from him you’re getting nothing but the absolute finest two slices of bread, meat and cheese can offer. Next time you go ask for his Picasso Special, an eponymous gem of spicy Sopresseta, cappy ham, aged provolone, sliced jalepenos, vinegar, oil, lettuce, tomato and onion. Extra-P, indeed.
