Wulf's Fish Market
The first thing you notice is the smell. Pungent and forceful, reminiscent of low tide on the Cape, the odor of fish hits you like a brick wall the moment you walk in the door. There is no mistaking the mission of the Wulf’s Fish Market, a Brookline institution located in a nondescript storefront outside of Coolidge Corner. The seafood itself is as impressive, and infinitely more appetizing, than the smell. Vibrant coral slabs of salmon, mussels in gnarled shells, and pearly fillets of sole rest on beds of ice. The pieces on display are all cut fresh from whole animals each day and many of the selections come straight off the boat. The staff is jovial and ready to offer advice on how best to cook your purchase, with suggestions that lean toward the simple and straightforward. And with fish this fresh and flavorful, you can indeed leave the saucepan on the shelf and the marinade in the fridge. You won’t need them.
