The first time I walked into All-Star Sandwich Bar, I seriously wondered if I could eat six or seven sandwiches for lunch that day. How to choose from a menu that includes gems like "Atomic Meatloaf Meltdown" and "The Pastraminator"? I ended up going for a special that day—a totally mouthwatering grilled raclette cheese with Russian dressing and bacon on sourdough. My friend, with her sensible half a ham and mango chutney sandwich and mixed green salad, helped me tuck into a pile of nicely done fries. Oh, and we got pickles. Many pickles. Giant, crunchy, sour, garlicky, heavenly pickles that I have actually dreamt about (hey now, sometimes a pickle is just a pickle). There aren't many places where you'll see poutine on the menu, so if you're craving a trough of fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds (and who isn't?) All-Star has got you covered. If your mouth is full of sandwich when the upbeat staff comes by to ask how things are, give 'em a big thumbs up and keep chewing. On your way out, be sure to grab a free Oreo at the counter. And maybe a few pickles to go.
