While you’re searching for some trashy lingerie and cheap jewelry along South Street, a few blocks west sits The Magic Garden. You’ll see traces of artist Isaiah Zagar’s influence along various shop signs and small mosaics before you reach his humble abode at 10th and South. But nothing compares to the spectacle of thousands of shattered glass and broken mirror pieces placed together with bicycle wheels and dirty rocks. Amazing. It’s almost as if a homeless man suffered a flash of brilliance and used all his junk to make a veritable fantasy land. Zagar also sells his off-couture work. Inside the Magic Garden sits his studio, where he does commissions as well as the occasional gallery show.
