Tampopo
Lovers of Japanese cuisine are no doubt already familiar with Tampopo, a casual (and very affordable) eat-in/take-out restaurant on 21st Street. Great for a quick dinner or a take-home meal, the location does lack perhaps one thing: a bit of ambiance. But the owners have outdone themselves with a new dine-in location on Sansom Street, boasting an expanded version of the original Tampopo menu at the same great prices. Quiet, cozy, and casual, the new Tampopo Asian Grill sits snugly in the middle of the block, so that you could almost miss it—but you definitely don’t want to. The new restaurant is about twice the size of the original location, but with a modern feel that’s both hip and soothing at the same time. We recommend the dumplings and anything on the menu that involves shrimp, as well as the sushi, but if none of those sound appetizing, just ask the extremely friendly wait staff for suggestions. And here’s a suggestion from us: grab a date and get yourself over to this place before the entire city finds it!
