Famous 4th Street Deli
The Famous Fourth Street Deli has undergone a small facelift, and they no longer serve their omelets on doggie-bag-ready Styrofoam-and-tinfoil plates (a la the ‘How many eggs are in this omelet?’ ‘I can’t tell you, but it’s more than nine and less than 11’ days). But the omelets, all in the $10 range, are still monstrous and more than enough grub for two (see photo, where half of the omelet has already been eaten). During a recent visit, just a third of one was enough to stuff this hungry patron. The Western omelet is especially tasty, but whatever your fancy, you’ll also get home fries and toast. This is in addition to the complimentary pastry, biscuit, and/or bialy plate you’ll be given just for sitting down. And with your check, you can expect a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie for each guest at your table. Nice breakfast. For the record, the menu does have a huge number of other breakfast selections, including egg and fish combos. But c’mon—doesn’t that omelet sound like a tempting challenge? You know it does. And Atkins would be proud.
