   The Franklin Institute
The picture is of the Franklin’s newly-animated mascot, Meno. Following Body Worlds; deathas- art, the Franklin Institute now displays art come to life. Commercialism hosts the Cartoon Network- sponsored exhibit, but the host has thrown a swell party. Oldschool Hanna Barbera is available in 5-minute clips (enough for a full dose of Huckleberry Hound), and a display case shows games amid toys from the days before Birdman went to law school. For moderns, “Dexter’s Laboratory” is the designated area for playing with visual effects such as “bullet time” and includes the unabashedly educational use of simulation and time-lapse photography in science. Other mind-stretching is more subtle, such as the sound effects areas where children of all heights can observe how sound makes or breaks the story. Warner Bros. and Disney can be found in the gift store, with kinescopes and flipbooks and other things I want for my birthday.
