Roxy Theatre Philadelphia
The Roxy reminds me of those neglected and outdated theaters that show movies no longer in rotation and charge $1.50 for admission. Except the Roxy, God bless its heart, charges full price, making it a dubious choice for someone with a Netflix subscription. More attractive movie-going options abound in Philly: the Ritz Theater chain in Old City offers comfortable seating for independent and artier films, and the Bridge multiplex in University City has a lounge where patrons can enjoy cocktails and appetizers before the show. So why would someone spend fullprice to sit in a small theater with lumpy seats and sticky floors? Because a lot of people forget that the Roxy is here, and it’s sometimes nice to be anonymous, especially for a solo matinee jaunt to escape the summer heat.
