The Moshulu is a large four-masted ship moored on Penn’s Landing which was converted into a restaurant with a large space for banquets and ceremonies. It makes a beautiful setting for events of any kind. The Delaware River flows by on one side and center city rises on the other and the Ben Franklin Bridge stretches across the river in the background. The food is delicious and the pastry chef renowned. Now, in the weeks leading up to my wedding, everyone told me that something would go wrong: no party for 80-plus people goes off without some minor hitch. But the banquet director at the Moshulu appeared so con- fident and able that I didn’t worry about it. I should have. While all of my guests had a great time, and we all have wonderful memories, the staff overlooked some major details—even though we had supplied them with exhaustive diagrams and spreadsheets! I do think that the value you get with Moshulu’s prices is very competitive, but I have to caution anyone who plans an event there to check and double check that the coordinator does her job right. Or else you, too, may end up with a four-tiered wedding cake in your refrigerator the day after your wedding.
