Pierre's Costumes
Halloween is just one month away. Adult shops on South Street advertise themselves as “Halloween Headquarters.” They wish. As you enter Pierre’s and look to the left, you will see glass cases filled with tubes and bottles, and a large friendly sign stating that even novices can have good results with professional-grade makeup on the first try. For my mad scientist costume in 2003 (see Henri David below), I bought the stuff that put white streaks in my hair. For my devil costume in 2004, I bought the horns and the spirit gum to attach them. Above the cases are trunks for storage and transport of mascot uniforms (Pierre’s also makes mascot costumes). Halloween may be their busy season, but Pierre’s is a year-round store. They rent costumes locally and supply theatrical productions. Upstairs you’ll find costumes for rent and wall racks of accessories: hats, swords, and other props. I bought a black aviator cap with goggles and a collapsing dagger for my 2005 costume as an Evil Aviator. Gaudy is fun (just ask South Street) but quiet class wins.
