International House Theater
International House of Philadelphia is a hulking mass of concrete in the middle of University City, but what the building lacks in architectural verve it more than compensates for with art, music, film, and cultural programming. The unassuming exterior houses a welcoming lobby with rotating art and a tasty cafe. In a week at International House you might catch an Italian film festival, a Korean cultural show, and a world-class jazz concert, and more (like I did last week). The residence/venue duality makes it comfortable to show up alone in your sweats or looking dapper and with a date. Either way, the programming is diverse; the theater is comfortable, and the picture and sound are great. Check the calendar at www.ihousephilly.org for upcoming events.
