Paris Café
If you’re really hungry–like 300 pound linebacker who missed lunch hungry–your first thought is probably not, “Ahh, Paris! Je veux French food!” But the rather misleadingly named Paris Café: la Petite Creperie is on a mission to change minds, one linebacker at a time. Tucked away in Houston Hall, a building on Penn’s campus, the creperie has been a favorite lunch spot for the University City crowd for years. Until a few years ago, these batter artisans operated out of one of the ubiquitous silver trucks that crowd that neighborhood, but with stellar popularity came stationery digs. You know what comes of a stationery lifestyle–waistline expansion; over the past few years these crepes have gotten fat! Luckily when we’re talking crepes, big is, well, phat. Stuffed with cheese, veggies, meat, and sauce (or fruit, nutella, and other sweet things if that’s your wish), La Petite Creperie’s wares are fresh and delicious. This spot is open to complicated instructions (a la “less cheese, no onions, extra broccoli, sauce on the side”), so the pickiest can be pleased. Let me close with a very un-P.C. yet very apt generality–at La Petite Creperie, real men eat crepes.
