What a great place! Entirely unassuming—maybe even a little drab and depressing—on the outside, the inside is all warmth, and a goldmine of tastes—from the excellent bass to the hotpots, which are legendary. I often go to Lee How Fook when the wait for Vietnam (right next door) is over an hour. Funny thing is, I often feel a sense of excitement when the Vietnam hostess gives the dismal news (of course, it’s tradition to check with her first). Lee How Fook’s small room is almost always at full capacity, with lots of families and groups and hipster two-packs in attendance, all of who are in the know that this is the best Chinese food in Chinatown—and the most varied. You can get a simple veggie curd dish or duck feet in oyster sauce—but don’t forget what I said about the bass. And also don’t forget, cheapies, to bring your own wine.
