Chapterhouse Café & Gallery
I can’t say enough about Steve Dolph. In fact, I’ve already written about him and his everything-literary-in-Philly blog, www.the-stylus.blogspot.com. But now I must focus (as part of a three-part series no less!) on his poetry/fiction reading series, Chapter and Verse, which occurs on last Saturdays, 8 pm at the Chapterhouse Cafe. Like all good reading series, this one survives on the quality of the readers Steve pulls in (rather than, say, on the sneer-y coolness of friends). Recently, visiting writers from Syracuse University, who proved to be much, much more than George Saunders zombies, came down for a writers exchange, providing cultural awareness with a geo-education-snow twist. There’s an eclectic feel each month, due to Steve’s openness and his canny ability to know good people. The readings are also recorded with a very slim device that I suspect is associated with the iPod, and can be heard quite clearly on the website. Tune in later for the last part of my three-part series on Steve Dolph—a tribute to Calque, his latest and first venture in Philadelphia literary translation publications. Au revoir . . . Steve? Steve? What did I just say?
