The Print Center is tucked away on one of those quiet blocks in Center City that manages to hide away, camouflaged by its own calm welcome just meters removed from the general bustle; it's one of a million little havens we bustly-types usually just can't see. Philadelphia's nonprofit gallery dedicated to photography and printmaking stands out with smart work and hides out with an unassuming locale. Check it out before May 5th and you'll catch Daniel Heyman's Abu Ghraib Detainee Interview Project. Forgo expectations of grinning snapshots; Heyman draws with words. His prints have so much to say that the words spill over the confines of the frames and pool on the floor. And careful where you step—these words bite. Finding havens is one of my favorite Philly activities. Unassuming facades across this city belie so many gorgeous spaces, snuggle around little gardens of comfort and communities of thought, and cover up amazing physical indications of our history. Just keep stumbling around, intentionally falling out of the bustle-step on occasion and walking through unknown doors , and you'll find yourself winning in the haven-hunt game too. Um, anyway, The Print Center is really cool like that.
