Love, your name is DeVille...and you come with a spoon. Scoop DeVille is no new find, but this West Philly dweller was psyched to find a second location tucked away in the basement of Penn's student union, a secret, subterranean, pink-walled life supply of sugar high. What makes Scoop DeVille Philly's favorite ice-creamery? The superior ice cream? The frozen yogurt options? The huge range of toppings? Nope. It's Scoop DeVille's super-kitsch pinkness + its ability to re-create the essence of pies, cakes, even life experiences with an ice cream base. I, for example, am continuously awed by the Scoop DeVille replication of pumpkin pie. (And on a truly tangential but important note—the bartender upstairs at the Trocadero knows how to make ten shots that taste like cake...ten different kinds of cake. I would list them, but after 'slice' four, it all gets hazy.) Anyway, at the Penn location of Scoop DeVille, the ice cream kitschery is at an all-time high with frozen milestones like "under the button" and "walk of shame." You may have walked that walk, but have you ever tasted it? (Who knew it has a touch of caramel?)
