Independence Hall this, Independence Hall that, I don’t see the big deal. I mean, who really cares where the declaration was signed, anyway? Maybe I just like underdogs, and underappreciated things, like Carpenter’s Hall. I cringe at the thought that the countless passersby at neighboring Buddakan don’t even notice the unobtrusive little building directly across the street. Then again, that seems par for the course with non-tourists. I lived in New York for 4 years and never saw the Statue of Liberty. But now, as a fully-fledged Philly resident, I have seen Carpenter’s Hall, and even know a thing or two about it. Carpenter’s Hall was home to the First Continental Congress. One of Ben Franklin’s libraries was housed there. And I think some spies might have shacked up at some point. So there you go. Don’t let all the fame go to your head, Liberty Bell, you’ve got some pretty famous brethren in town too.
