The Royal Tavern
It’s not often that I eat like a king. As a frequent patron of Philly’s bars and pubs, I’ve gotten accustomed to making meals out of jalapeno poppers and potato skins. But recently I learned an important lesson. Just because you’re a barfly doesn’t mean you have to eat shit. Welcome to Royal Tavern, my new favorite drinking establishment. A gastro pub serving food that rivals the fare of some of Philly’s trendier restaurants, Royal Tavern is the ideal destination when you’re looking for a mellow night on the town. The list of daily specials is practically as long as the regular menu and there are plenty of options for carnivores, vegetarians, and vegans alike. Beyond delightful dining, the tavern’s jukebox rocks some seriously good tunes—seriously, when was the last time you saw people standing in line for a jukebox? The staff is friendly, the service is efficient, the atmosphere is dark but not dingy, and oh my god, have I mentioned the fucking food? Whether you want to nosh on some gnocchi or slurp down the soup of the day, you won’t be disappointed—this is a place you actually wouldn’t be embarrassed to become a regular.
