Expensive Mexican food is an oxymoron. I realized this last weekend as I received my bill at Zocalo, a pretty little spot in University City that has a lot going for it, save the price. The vibe is festive, the food is quite tasty, and the specialty sangria will leave you scooping every last berry out of the carafe. But come on—seventeen bucks for an enchilada?? To me, trying to get too clever with my favorite dishes south of the border dish is like putting a tiara on a porn star. You know what it's good for, you know it's going to be cheap and great, and you don't need to pretty it up anymore then that.
