Sigh. I want so badly to write a glowing review of An Eclectic View. The girl who runs it is nice and earnest, and I think her newly opened boutique is getting less foot traffic than a remote dune in the Gobi Desert. But at the same time, I can see why. The location doesn’t help, first of all. The only people who pass by that area of Girard are usually going to Dunkin Donuts, not looking for old Prince Albert cans and silk slips. Secondly, the assortment of stuff for sale started small and is growing slowly. The first time I went in, there were maybe 20 vintage clothing items and a strange collection of old Better Homes and Gardens. Now the Better Homes and Gardens have been replaced with copies of the more appropriate Life magazine, and the shelves are stacked with antique house wares, silk scarves, and costume jewelry. But the place still feels sluggish, like it’s a train that needs a lot more coal before it chugs up to full-speed. Look: go support this place. There’s some really nice stuff. Just don’t expect to spend hours, or even that many minutes, browsing.
