High Dive
You have to check out The High Dive’s New Music Monday, hosted by local music website NadaMucho.com, for a chance to check out Seattle’s up and coming bands at a great venue. NadaMucho.com has pretty good taste as in the case of the upcoming Gatling Gees show on November 19. A three-man band from Seattle, they brought the house down at their October 2nd show, which was also at the High Dive. Daymon Mar, the band’s lead singer and guitarist, mixes his signature style with the roots of rock n’ roll over Otis McGurk’s deep walking bass lines. You can hear hints of the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Hank Williams and Chuck Berry presented with a confident attitude reminiscent of NWA. Some call it Rockabilly but it’s not. It’s rock and roll in its purest form yet modern enough to get the crowd moving and begging for more. They hit it, and they hit it hard leaving the audience with nothing to do but get lost among the energy. By the end of the original High Dive show, even the hipster that started in the back had made his way to middle of the floor and was dancing like he didn’t remember he was supposed to be looking cooler than everyone else. Such is the power of the Gatling Gees.
