Nathan Hale High
At 5:30 pm, most drivers are white knuckling their steering wheels in Seattle traffic. Not me. Inside the safe bubble of my Subaru I am singing along to Just Jack. “Why you gotta go and put stars in their eyes? It’s a long way to come from your private bedroom dance routines and Saturday night’s drunken dreams.” Ain’t that the truth. Maybe I love electronica and dance music because I grew up on the keyboard-heavy music of the 80s. Whatever the reason, I have C-89.5 to thank for supplying me with my fix of European dance hits from artists like Eric Prydz, Groove Armada, Justice, Freemasons, and Armand vanHelden. This station isn’t just another cookie-cutter Clear Channel holding. For over 35 years, C-89.5 has been broadcasting from Nathan Hale High School and is entirely managed by students as part of a radio broadcasting course. If you can’t bear hearing another Dave Matthews Band song on The Mountain or Fergie on one of our various hip-hop channels, tune into the sweet sounds of high school students reading news briefs between the latest dance hits.
