Art Studio for Experiments is the ethos behind this clever gallery's name. Located on Walnut Street under the 'Framing by Walter' sign is a unique conceptual art space that houses several shows each year, including Penn MFA student work and pieces by other local artists. Unlike most stark and sterile galleries, this space is home-y, thanks to its front room location in a walk-up right off Walnut Street. To passersby, aSFe's windows serve as an inspirational and creative jolt in the sea of retail that lines Rittenhouse's streets. The space is an appropriately subdued setting for the swirling and complex images that compose the latest show, The Midwives Collective: Progression. The works are a print trade between Moore College of Art alumni; the traded images will result in new bodies of work that chronicle each individual artist's yearly creative growth and exploration. Philadelphia is proud to be home to the collection's first show. In the summer, the works will travel to Houghton College in New York. This exhibition's entree into the art world highlights homegrown talent, so be sure to check out local art as it's locally shown. The Midwives Collective: Progression show runs through December 31.
