Falafel, seitan, baked tofu and other vegetarian options make this food truck on Penn's campus a destination. Aside from wonderful quality food prepared at Magic Carpet's South Street kitchen, cleverly named delicacies (Smurf and Turf, McNinja), and service with a smile, waiting in line outside this fresh air cart is pleasant in itself. On most days your ears will be delighted by the natural and new age-y sounds of Santana or WXPN—who knew those sweet rhythms, would make you even hungrier? Sandwiches made on whole wheat pita recently experienced a twenty-five cent hike, but paying $4 for a wholesome lunch is still one of the biggest steals in the city. As an independent bottled iced tea connoisseur, I can confidently state that Magic Carpet has one of the best and most reasonably-priced natural beverage selections in town. In the mix with Honest Tea are several other unsweetened or lightly sweetened organic teas, juices, and soda options, and none top $1.50. In this day and age of Vitamin Water, it's becoming rare to find bottled quality drinks for under $2.00. Note: the ideal Magic Carpet rider is happy and relaxed; grumbling about line length ought to be forbidden. True love, tahini, and magic meatballs await.
