This place took me by surprise. For a couple reasons: you’ve usually at least heard of most of Atlanta’s prom date-worthy restaurants, and the plastic black and white lit sign for 10 Degrees South is one that I’ve passed many times—and is completely contradictory to the lush interior or any hint that an upscale restaurant lies within. A diverse crowd of diners, including a family with kids in soccer jerseys and Buckhead white collar types, comes here for the authentic cuisine that represents a fusion of influences from France, Germany, Malaysia, and the Mediterranean. Many of the friendly wait staff have accents from across the globe, and the New Zealand native bartender merrily doled out birthday shots for us. An acoustic duo playing in the background, aided by the aforementioned shot, gave the experience a dreamy quality as we went around the table grazing off one another’s plate. Everything—from the bobotie (incredible ground beef curry) to the ostrich to the lamb—was unbelievably good. Start budgeting for this meal. Now.
