India Basin / Hunter's Point
Formerly a working shipyard and the site of the US’s first dry dock, Hunter’s Point is currently being redeveloped to provide affordable housing and attract businesses into this economically-deprived sector of the city. The Hunter’s Point Artist Community is here as well, providing affordable studio space for local artists.

Mother and Child
This is a waterfront sculpture built originally for Burning Man, a celebration of alternative culture held every year in the Nevada desert. Flames used to shoot between the hands of the two figures, but the fire mechanism has been removed for the safety of passers-by. The two thirty-foot structures are made up of countless recycled metal objects welded together, resembling something that came up from the bottom of the Bay, a revenge of the iron layers of detritus from San Francisco and Oakland's shipyards. The Bay Bridge connects those two cities in the background. Like previous art curated into the metropolis from the Burning Man event, this is a temporary installation. After the permit expires, this mother-child dyad returns to the primal ooze.
