NFT Washington DC Trinidad

Trinidad
On the NE outskirts of the District, Trinidad is one of DC’s last affordable neighborhoods… and it shows. But outside speculators are coming in with business concepts that longtime residents would rather fend off, including several adult-oriented clubs relocated by the Nationals Park.

United States National Arboretum
Somewhat hidden off in otherwise sketchy Southwest holds some of DC's best sites on acres and acres of rolling green space, without all the tourists. Where? you ask. The National Arboretum, which is quite famous, and one of those places every local plans to visit, but never gets around to. The main deterrent is its location and proximity to public transportation, including a long hike into the heart of the gardens (unless you have a car or bike). In reality it attracts large crowds, particularly on weekends, but it is so large that people spread out enough to allow for private moments within the grounds. For free, you can stroll through a spacious grove of state trees, visit the original portico columns of the Capitol, examine a bonsai pavilion, sniff your way through an herb garden, and rest in a bright red Chinese pagoda overlooking the river. In spring, the dogwoods are in high bloom; in fall, the leaves turn magnificent colors; and in winter, the snow makes for some breathtaking photography. Weddings are popular here, whether an entire reception party or just for photos (permit required). New projects are always underway, including a Chinese garden currently accepting monetary contributions. The Arboretum also offers flower arranging classes, lectures, full moon hikes, plant sales and special events for kids.
