Tip Top Bike Shop
The Bay Area is a pretty hip place to be a biker. There's a bunch of specialty shops and plenty of people who are super knowledgeable about track bikes, mountain bikes, vintage bikes...you name it. But I think I found the store for me. With an excellent selection of super cute bikes, commuter bikes, and racing bikes, plus a really approachable and friendly staff, this newest kid on the block sure knows how to impress. Tip Top Bike Shop is definitely a neighborhood favorite, with their mottos “Everything for the everyday rider” and “All bikes, no attitude.” Located on the strip of Telegraph Ave between 40th and 51st, and across the street from the Lanesplitter (great pizza and beer), Tip Top opened about 7 months ago. I was lured in by the revolutionary "Propaghanda" low-rider cruiser hanging out in front, with fat brown tires and a matte red frame. Unlike a lot of specialty shops where you go in just to “look around” and walk out empty handed, Tip Top had the somewhat rare kind of front-loading bike basket that I had previously only been able to find online. So I bought it, glad to do business in the “hood” rather than online. Plus, their “I hella (bike graphic) Oakland” T-shirts are excellent.
