If you're a fan of comedy like Patton Oswalt, Flight of the Conchords or Whose Line Is It Anyway, you must check out Big City Improv. The local comedy troupe has been performing laugh-out-loud comedy for the past eight years in the Bay Area. Their performances take audience suggestions and fit them into three to five minute games of hilarity that they act out unscripted, before you, the audience. While the cast hopes you shout out suggestions, it is a comfortable, inclusive environment and nobody is ever singled-out and forced to 'be funny'. If you are an aspiring improviser, Big City also teaches classes and occasionally holds auditions if you are interested in joining their troupe. For the 4th year in a row, Big City Improv is performing two shows (at 8 and 10 PM) on New Years Eve which will showcase the best. The later show includes Champagne, a raffle, and an after-show party. They have sold-out the past three years because they make for an affordable and exciting New Years Eve that promises to be a night you won't forget (as long as you are sober enough to remember it). All of their shows are performed at the Shelton Theater, an unintimidating space with stadium seating, adult beverages and a cheap $15 ticket price, a mere stone’s throw from Union Square. Their New Year’s shows are $35 and $40 respectively and you can buy tickets directly through TicketWeb or their website.
