Working in downtown San Francisco can be the pits. Full of charge-too-much-for-too-much-grease-and-not-enough-nutrient type food, or just plain charge-too-much food. If you're like me, you make your lunch at least half of the time and then rely on some trusty standby places where you can hit up some delicious food. The new Rotee Express promises hearty servings of Pakistani and Indian foods with naan, rice and mango chutney. Its bright, sleek signage and simple, modern interior drew me in, and the food will draw me back. They offer three types of vegetarian and three types of meat entrees, of which you can pick two to put into a combo meal that comes with rice and naan for $7-8. They offer chicken tikka salad, raita, and mango lassi's and rotating daily specials. It's nowhere near the best Indian food that I've had in San Francisco, nor even the best fast-food Indian joint, but it's fast, convenient, and just about the only Indian place in the lower SOMA/Financial district, and for this I am grateful. Today naan, tomorrow mango lassi.
